Nexium 24H, esomeprazole magnesium, is used to treat frequent heartburn in adults and children aged 4 years and over. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by decreasing the amount of acid made by the stomach. The drug works by blocking the action of an enzyme in the stomach that produces acid. It will not work for reflux or heartburn. It helps heal recurring heartburn in people with GERD.
